wow ines.. you’re so fast with updates… Miss Philippines is so frustrating… with that gown… it looks cheap and stinks… but I like her beauty and swimwear… Miss Korea is fabulous with her black gown… and Japan really look nice with silky striking colours… well done Ines!

Ok I just saw a pic of Sun in her black gown. Um, personally I think Sun’s dress look a little too big for her. I LOVE SUN but the dress is kind of blah… Maybe I will change my mind about her dress after I see a video clip of her fabulous walk down the runway………

but honestly, i do not like korea’s dress.
she looks bit scary with black hair, all black dress, and gray eyeshadows…it looks heavy too…thailand is gorgeous. japan is the best among asians (overall…swimsuit and gown) then thailand (didn’t see her gown but great body).

Yes, I love Sun’s dress too. She looks regal, elegant and very modern. I would like to see how she handles her dress on stage though. Miss Japan’s
gown is truly high fashion as well.

With respect to Venezuela, I am sorry to say, but the way she sways back and forth on stage with that constant forced smile is really annoying. And her dress, ugh, to me looks outdated. God, I hope she doesn’t win. With regard to Miss Puerto Rico, I don’t even think she will be in the top 15.

Also, I agree with LeeSora that Miss USA looks a bit manly, and I should add that her body is too muscular for my taste.

I love Sun´s dress, though i´ve read is big for her. In pics i can see it just perfect. I hope she did so so so well. Her face is beautiful. I also loved Mexico in the pics, though her dress is kind of stereotypical. I dont like colombia in the pic, thouhg she is my top 3 latina, i think she´s really beautiful. Spain looks good. I Love Hiroko’s Gown. The eye catcher of the lot I think. Disappointed with Miss Singapore’s gown but don’t think it is that bad. It is kinda different. Miss Venezuela and Miss Mexico gown look kinda similar… Yellow…

I am a girly girl at heart Hiroko’s gown is playful and fun but I like Riyo’s gown last year better (sophisticated and playful). Venezuela looks very sunny in her gown. Singapore’s gown does not really suit her, she should have worn her hair up. Philipppines, very pretty but yikes, dress is too pageant patty.

My two cents; after watching the videos, which is more accurate than viewing photos, I loooooooove Venezuela. Korea is unique…in a good way and I love her energy and vibe. Colombia walked better wearing the swimsuit; for me she rushed a bit with the gown, and I thought she was going to take off any minute. Dominican Republic and Panama, amazing. Japan and Mexico, OK. Didn’t like Philippines, Puerto Rico, Australia, Kosovo. I was expecting more from them. Anxious to hear your comments.

Ines, Japan’s dress is outstanding!!!!It is fresh, vibrant, feminine and original. Venezuela’s amd Mexico’s dress are nice but so from the 90’s and not different! Shame on Philippines and Singapore’s dresses, coming from country’s with such great talent. Cannot understand Kosovo at all and still do not know the big hype on USA and Puerto Rico. Korea was amazing as was Panama and South Africa.

WOW! So I just watched Sun’s presentation in both ss and gown on youtube and all I can say is WOW! That girl sure can rock it! I do not think Singapore’s gown is that bad. It appears bad on pictures but on video, it looks fierce and wild. Really Fierce! Same goes for the bikini!

Dear Ines,
i watched the preliminary show but unfortunately i have come to realize that even the judges were actually ambivalent towards the results which brought about discrepancies and has led to them dispersing their votes/marks. Based on your experience, do you think that it is only the gown that matters, or the girl wearing it?
In addition to that, many of the favorites did not perform really well on stage. With the expeption of Korea who manages to look authentic and fierce on stage regardless her dress choice i should raise some objections on the performance of Colombia ( i think even the judges commented on her walk- was she drunk or something?), and beauties like Puerto Rico ( really bad in ss/ bad in gown as well). Panama was trying too hard and even if i like Venezuela i think her poise was over the top. USA seemed robotic as well, really plastic indeed.

Since i have watched the show, please don’t get me wrong but i suppose that Korea deserves the crown up until now. I also loved Mexico and India was OK. I did not like Thailand at all ( her gown was great but she was a dead corps on stage).Japan has grown on me ( did not like the gown but loved her on stage). From Europe i disagree with most of your comments. Norway is a bad walker. Greece is not no1 facially, her gown choice was not good, but the woman had the most elegant presentation in that section. Plus, judges even commented on her body!

I loved Miss Mexico’s dress! She is definately my fav. contestant in yellow.

I also loved T&T, Spain, and USA. I am not a huge Miss PR fan, but her dress was absolutely amazing.

I love both Sun and Hiroko, sorry to say I was not a fan of their dresses…but I must give them credit for how they carried themselves on stage…fantastic!

In some pics I like Miss Colombia’s gown, but in others I don’t. Miss South Africa was ok…

I definately did not like Miss India’s and Miss Norway’s. They are lovely ladies in tragic dresses…

Miss Venezuela..I can see why she is a favorite, but I can also see why some people think she’s fake and annoying. Her dress was nice, but I am not really feeling yellow on her. I agree with you Ines, she needs to tone down the red lipstick and smile less. Oh yes and stop that horrible head fling that she does when she poses (like in Swimsuit)…I was afraid she’d give herself whiplash :S But she’d def. make top 15!

Ines I really love Hiroko but her gown is just not right for pageant, and the pink fluffy feather purse is too weird to be seen on stage. It’s not a fashion show, but a beauty pageant. Ines I really hope that you can change Hiroko’s gown for the finals like the blue and white floral print Loewe gown that she wore on the picture for “evening gown.” By the way I love Hiroko’s make up for the prelims, she’s so beautiful. Top 5 for sure, but can’t say for Miss Korea since she lacks the spark and energy!

Venezuela, I agree with you: Too much lipstik and smiles out of place, she seems like very very plastic in her permormance. Bad ponint.
Colombia, too much fabric in her clots, the body seems fat. Her face is good, but only that, she needs more impact, Her hair…ordinary hairdress.
Mexico, good dress, hair and makeup but…although she had a perfect catwalk in swimsuit, whit her grown…I don´t know, she was good…but no extraordinary. I hope she can work hardly in that for de great night and she wins. Mexico is in my opinion the most strong delegate.
Korea..well I like more the Trinidad & Tobago’s one, but Korea was nice.

Ines, I’ve read on the Global Beauties site that most of the contestants will be changing their evening gowns for the final show. Will Sun and Hiroko be changing their gowns or wearing the same ones on the final night? Personally I hope that Sun wears a different gown because, even though I have come to accept and somewhat like the gown, there are all kinds of mixed feelings about her gown in different forums and I find that too risky for the final night… I don’t want that gown to cost her the crown.

Sun lacks spark and energy? That girl is fierce… I don’t know what you are seeing… Perhaps she didn’t seem like that during the prelim cuz she was sick. Trust me though, she will rock the stage come the final day.

Honestly I don’t understand the hype around Venezuela. She’s just alright for me. Don’t really think she’s all that pretty either, like you stated in your post… Sorry. To me she seems kind of fake and cheesy.

And I just want to make it clear to others that I DO NOT hate Venezuela. She’s a good girl for the pageant. But she over does everything in my opinion… Fake smiles, always trying to stand out in one way or the other, head bobbling/fling, etc. She was one of my fav’s in the beginning of the contest but now she is out of my list… Too bad for her.

I’m so proud of Sun for giving such a great performance despite her poor physical condition. Having followed your blog for several months, I feel like Sun and Hiroko are my younger sisters, and I am genuinely rooting from them. I was really worried about Sun when I heard she got sick and did notice that her face looked skinnier in the pictures. However, her catwalk was still superb and definitely stood out among the other contestants. BTW, is she able to eat proper food again? Please give her a warm hug from all of her fans!

I just think that the evening gowns that Miss Japan and Miss Korea wore were too “Haute Couture” and Ines should change their gowns to be more elegant but yet modern that makes her delegates stands out from the others. Btw I don’t think there’s anything wrong on how Miss Venezuela walks and by far she has the best walk in evening gown, and let me tell you Dayana is not going to wear that yellow gown for the finals. Osmel has another evening gown for her by Angel Sanchez as a secret weapon.

Yea I’m glad Venezuela is not going to wear the yellow gown for the finals…that chic is too beautiful for that gown. It would hurt because I felt like last year’s mexico was robbed because of her ugly red gown.

Honey, unless you are Donald Trump, or anybody relevant, who cares??!!, I think Dayana is doing just fine without your support. Just read what’s coming from Vietnam. In addition of the odds from betting agencies. That should give you a window into what really is happening in the MU.

I’ve found that Hiroko has grown so much since the Miss Universe Japan finalist last year. She has personality and attitude as far as I see on pics and videos. I believe people like a spunky girl like her. Her dress is ok, but I could see the nu-bra in the pictures you’ve posted:( I personally wants her to be in the top 5.

I DONT AGREE ZULEYKA RIVERA MU 2007 WAS THE BEST CHOICE FOR THE CROWN. KURARA SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE WINNER. KURARA WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT COULD OUTBID ZULEYKA. I GUESS THE WORLD WAS NOT READY FOR AN ASIAN TO WIN.

GUESS THE UNIVERSE REALIZE ITS MISTAKE AND WANTED TO MAKE IT UP IN 2008. ALTHOUGH I WAS HAPPY TO SEE RIYO WIN, BUT IF A JAPONESSE WAS TO BE CROWN MISS UNIVESE? KURARA DESERVE MORE THE CROWN WAY MORE THAN RIYO.

HOWEVER, THERE WERE MANY OTHER GIRLS MORE ASTONISHLY BEAUTIFUL THAN ZULEYKA IN THE PAGEANT, HOWEVER ZULEYKAS PERFORMANCE AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE CROWN WAS WAY OVER ALL OF THEM.

THIS YEAR I SEE TONS OF GIRLS THAT ARE HOT LIKE RUSSIA , AUSTRALIA, NORWAY ETC, BUT I REALLY WISH THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAINED IN VENEZUELA, PUERTO RICO OR JAPAN. THEY COULD HAVE BEEN THE WINNERS.

I HONESTLY WISH COLOMBIA GETS THE CROWN THIS YEAR.

Jess, thank you for your repply. I Think Miss Venezuela was over in the Preliminary Presentantion as like Miss Colombia. It wasnt necessary. Miss Puerto Rico wasnt good too. I loved Miss Brazil
(she was incredible)and Miss Norway anad South Africa. My top 5 are: Mexico (1), Brazil (3), Australia (4), Colombia (5) South Africa (2)

Miss Korea, Kazaquistao, USA, Panama Norway are my other favorites girls.

I personally think Riyo’s walk in both bikini and gown are the best….
but I love Sun’s walk in bikini too! Despite of the food poisoning, I still could feel her energy & confidence! Go Sun!!!!!
Miss Venezuela is beautiful too… just felt that she smiles too much and the head flinging was… unnecessary…

The gown she wore was so plain….. But she’s really stunning in the swimsuit competition!!!!! I totally loved it!!!!! Hope she makes the first cut!!!

On the other hand, Korea was just BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Sun was like a sunshine in that stage!!!!! She’s also not in her 100% that time…. Congratulations Ines for doing a very good job!!!!!

and back in 2006, i really surprise that ZULEYKA RIVERA won over KURARA CHIBANA, honestly, ZR looked unpowerfull, she’s too skinny and (like a drug)… Kurara is much better … but like u said, THE WORLD WAS NOT READY FOR AN ASIAN TO WIN … T_T
in 2007, Riyo is ok but i saw many other contestant much better than her, like Korea, n Riyo won just TO MAKE IT UP the mistake …
… this year, if SUN LEE win, i don’t know, she’s beautiful, she has what it take but compare to Honey LEE, it’s just like Kurara and Riyo …

Would you ever consider coaching in Korea? THey have such strong lineup of beautifulll women. From honey to sun…goodness! go korea***

I really love the gowns of Japan and Korea, I think they were excellent choice to get attention, but I do wish both will change their evening gowns for the final competition, because I am worried that the judges might not appreciate them as much as I do. (or we do!)

I am personally most attracted to Sun, but I wouldn’t expect she would make it even to top 5 — if she does, I will be really impressed by judge’s open-mindedness — because Sun might be a bit too different from the conventional image of a MU.

I feel Mexico would get the crown, if she doesn’t make any mistake. Mexico seems like a perfection to me. Perhaps too perfect so that it’s getting slightly boring for me — she does not over-do anything, she does everything within safe boundaries, and she has such a perfect face and body for a MU.

Venezuela — I like her joyfulness and her energy, but she seems too carefree and too cheerful to be a MU. And her makeup (too red, too pink) and hair (that sprayed hair standing on top of her face!) are a bit too 80’s to me. But her personality is interesting, and she has really awesome modern body. I feel she pretty much screws her chance for the crown by over-doing everything so that Mexico would safely snatch it instead.

I personally like Japan a lot, but I’m afraid she’s probably a bit too cute to grab the crown. She looks too cute (like baby-cute) especially when she does the up-hair, because of the way bang is cut. I like her much more when she lets her hair down so that she’d look more mature.

Btw, I much appreciate those delegates who do risky things (such as Japan, Korea, Venezuela) — they make the show much more entertaining and exciting to watch.

I’d be bored to death if everybody acts and behaves like Australia — yeah I see she’s elegant and all but looking at her makes me sleepy really.
