GOOD NEWS FRECKLES ARE BACK !

フォトショップやエアブラシで人工的に加工して、肌を完璧に見せることに嫌気が差しているのは私だけ？それとも、あなたもかしら。私はずっとリアリティを求めてきたわ。肌だって触った時の感触と同じように見せればいいと思うの。時には柔らかく滑らか、時にはピンと張りのある感じ。
　Now, is it just me or are you as well tired of the false perfection of Photoshop and airbrushing? I long for reality, for imperfection, for character, for skin that looks as it feels, sometimes soft and smooth, other times taut and tough.

私がこの話をしようと思ったのは、友達とのランチでちょっと言い合いになったからなの。ことの発端は、物議をかもした、ニューヨークマガジンのリンジー・ローハンの写真。ベテランフォトグラファーのバート・スターンが、1962年にマリリン・モンローの死の直前に撮影した、あの悪名高きヌード写真を再現したのよ。マリリンにとっては、それが最後の撮影だったわ。
I decided to write this story because I had a little argument at lunch with one of my friend over a spread-story photo of controversial Lindsay Lohan in New York Magazine, in which famous veteran-photographer Bern Stern recreated his infamous 1962, nude shoot with Marilyn Monroe just before she died, it was her last photo-shoot.

私が感動し、逆に友達がイラついた理由は、リンジーが全裸だったからじゃなくて、リンジーがありのままの肌を見せているということだったの。顔、肩、お腹、両腕、太もも、お尻、バスト、それらを覆っている陶器のような肌は、しみやソバカスでいっぱいだったわ。まるで誰かが　顔料を振りかけたみたいにね。
It was not the fact that Lindsay was completely nude that impressed me and repulsed my friend but it was to see Lindsay real skin on her face, her shoulders, her stomach, her arms, her tights, her bottom, her full breast and the porcelain skin that covers them, all sprinkled with freckles like if someone had shaken a bottle of pigment over her.

私の最初のロールモデルでアイドルだったのはリタ・ヘイワース。グラマラスなドレスを身にまとった彼女は、赤毛で、肌は明るいソバカスやしみでいっぱいだったわ。当時の女優たちは隠してなんかいなかったから、しみやソバカスが間違っているなんて思ったこともなかった。
I remember my first role-model and idol, actress Rita Hayworth, wearing those glamorous gowns with her red hair and bright freckles everywhere. I never thought that something was wrong because actresses were not hiding them at the time.

それから徐々に、雑誌のページだけでなく、デジタル撮影されたものすべてからしみやソバカスが消えていったことに気づいたの。まるでこの世に存在しないかのようにね。フランス語ではシミやソバカスを”taches de rousseurs”または“grain de beaute”（ビューティースポット＝ほくろ）と言うの。
Then, I realized that slowly they just disappeared from the magazine shoots, from anything taken digitally. Just like it freckles did not exist anymore. That’s what we call in French “taches de rousseurs” (freckles) or “grain de beaute” (beauty spot).

 

 

ケイト・モス、グウィネス・パルトロウやジュリアン･ムーアは、ほとんどの撮影でシミやソバカス、ほくろを消されることを拒否しているわ。
Look at Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow or Julianne Moore, most of the shoots they refuse to have their freckles or beauty-spots removed.

 

でもシエナ・ミラーやジゼル・ブンツェンを見て。ほとんどの写真の中の彼女たちにはシミ・ソバカスがないのに、実際の彼女たちにはいっぱいあるわ。それって間違いだと思うの。私はシミ・ソバカスは愛すべきものだと思っているわ。だってセクシーだしリアルでしょ。ここ10年で究極の完璧さを追求するという状況になってしまったのね・・・でも私にとって興味をひくのは完全な完璧さではなく、不完全なところなの。インスパイアされるようなイメージを持って自分自身をケアすることは素晴らしいことだけど、注意しないと本当の自分自身を見失って、あなたではない他の誰かになろうともがくことになるわよ。
But see Sienna Miller or Gisele Bundchen, most of their photos are freckles-free and they both are freckles-full women. It is wrong to me. I love freckles, they are sexy and real. The past 10 years we got into this situation of ultimate perfection….. but to me it is not perfection which is interesting but imperfection. It is great to have inspirational images, and to take care of yourself but if you are not careful it is easy to lose the sense of who you really are and to try to be someone that does not exist.

ほとんどの女性は、顔や上半身に、シミ・ソバカス・ほくろがあるわ。それがあったほうがもっとリアルに見える。ファイナリストたちにいつも言っているのは、ソバカスやほくろをジュエリーだと思いなさい、ということ。知花くららは最高に美しいほくろが顔にあるわね。宮崎京は上唇の右上に、美しいほくろがある。トレーニング中は京のことをシンディ（シンディ・クロフォード）と呼んでいたの。そうすれば、彼女自身も、他のファイナリストも、私が誰のことをスタッフと話しているか分からないでしょう？
Most every women on the planet have freckles or beauty-spots on their face and upper body. It makes look real to have them. I always encourage the finalists to wear them as jewelry. Kurara Chibana has the most beautify beauty-spots on her face. Miyako Miyazaki has a beautiful one right-above her upper-lip and during the trainings, I used to call her Cindy (as Cindy Crawford), so that she and the other finalists would not know who I was talking about together with my staff.

京もくららも、本大会でもほくろを隠そうとはしなかった。そして2人とも上位5名に残ったわ。時々、私のブラウンのアイペンシルを使って、撮影前のモデルの顔にほくろやソバカスを描くことがあるの。そうすると、まるでモンテカルロでテニスをしてきたような肌になるの。（全く同じものを描かないように注意することが重要。あくまでもナチュラルに見えるように）
Both Miyako and Kurara did not hide them while competing at the Miss Universe pageant and they both placed in the top 5. I sometimes use my eye brown pencil to spread freckles or beauty-spots on some models face before a photo shoot to make it look like she has just return from playing tennis in Monte Carlo (making sure that 2 freckles would not look the same so that it would look natural).

シミやソバカスは誰かの顔の一部よ。本人が頼みもしないのに、メークでどうしてそれを隠すの？シミやソバカス、ほくろがキャラクターになるのよ。吹き出物やアザではないのに、どうして隠したいと思うの？
Freckles are part of someone face, why removing them if the person does not ask for during make up session? They give character. Freckles and beauty-spots are not pimples or moles, also why would you want to hide them?

ルーシー・リューは、ハリウッドで活躍するアジア系アメリカ人女優として有名ね。「キル・ビル」、最近では「ラッキーナンバー７」の役柄で知られていて、驚くほど美しい女性よ。そして彼女は見たことないほどたくさんのソバカスのある、最もセクシーな女優といえるわ。
Lucy Liu is easily the famous Asian-American woman working in Hollywood right now, with roles in “Kill Bill” and the recent “Lucky Number Slevin”. She’s also amazingly beautiful, too. And she is, easily, the sexiest woman with freckles you’ll ever see.

凍りつきそうに寒いとき、アナタはどんな服を選ぶ？冬の東京の街は、ベージュやグレイ、黒で溢れているわね。なんだか憂鬱でつまらない感じがするわ。
What do you wear when it is freezing outside?  I see a lot of beige, gray and black colors on the streets of Tokyo during the cold months.  It makes it sad and monotone.

私のお気に入りは、上の写真みたいな無造作なスタイル。カジュアルだけどエレガントな雰囲気でしょ。日中の格好としてはこういうのが好きよ。
I like the nonchalance of this outfit above.  Its casual but elegant feel.  My favorite look of all for a middle-of-the-day look.

厳冬のニューヨークのストリートスナップから、何枚か選んでみたの。最近のニューヨークでは、黒尽くめの格好はあまり見かけなくて、逆にカラフルなスタイルが目につくわ。
I chose some pictures taken on the streets of icy New York.  New York a city of all-black outfits is relatively surprising right now, because there is color everywhere on the streets!

You can  find similar styles at shops in your city, either in Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe or Tokyo.  Go hunting for some spectacular but warm looks and make winter a fun season of the year.

 2009年に発表された長編のドキュメンタリー、 “The September Issue”はもう観た？R.J.Cutlerが監督した2007年9月に発売され、記録的なセールスとなったVogue（米版）の制作の裏側をフィーチャーしたものよ。この映画は、チーフエディターのアナ・ウィンターが、この9月号を準備する過程を、8ヶ月に渡って撮影したものなの。ウィンターとクリエイティブディレクターのグレース・コディントン（私の大好きな人）との微妙な関係が浮き彫りになっていたわ。この号は重さ約2.3キロ、840ページにも及び、過去最大規模の月刊誌となったの。
Have you seen the feature-length documentary “The September Issue” released in 2009; an inside view of the production of the record-breaking September 2007 issue of U.S. Vogue, directed by R. J. Cutler. The film was shot over eight months as editor-in-chief Anna Wintour prepared the issue, and highlighted the sometimes difficult relationship between Wintour and her creative director Grace Coddington (my absolute idol). The issue ended up being the largest ever published; over 5 pounds in weight and 840 pages in length, a world record for a monthly magazine.

でも、私個人的には、このインタビューにはがっかりしたわ・・・。だって、内容は空っぽだし冷たい印象だったから。彼女は、彼女のようになりたいと思う人たちの意欲を掻き立てるようなメッセージも、刺激となるようなことも何にも発信していなかった。残念なことだわ。光っていたのは、彼女の右腕で素晴らしいクリエイティビティと愛すべき個性を持ったグレース・コディントンだった。
But, I was personally quite disappointed by her interview…. it was empty and cold, she gave no message at all to the viewers, nothing that could be inspirational or motivating for people trying to achieve her level of success.  A waste of a show… the real star is her right hand and red headed Grace Coddington with her extraordinary creativity and lovable personality.

アナにはミラノのファッションウィークで会ったことがあるけど、編集における才能は素晴らしいものの、魅力的な取材対象者とは言えないと思ったわね。
I met her in Milan during the Fashion Week. Sorry to say but, Anna indeed has a great talent for editing, but definitely not at being interviewed.

Black sculpted-tailoring. I love the architecture of this outfit. A breakfast  at Tiffany in winter time version. A strong, sophisticated style for business or for a charity luncheon.

Chic, fashionable, structured look for a big entrance at diner in one of the hip restaurants in town. Love the mini skirt with super-high knee boots. Bravo!

グレーとブラウンの美しくて暖かそうな素材。バッグのスパイシーカラーがアクセントとして効いてるわね。私なら、重要なクライアントとのランチミーティングや友人と博物館に行く時にしたいスタイルだわ。
Beautiful warm fabrics, rich gray with brown. Spiced with bright colors on the bag. I would wear this look at a lunch meeting with some important clients or going to a museum with friends.

ステキなシューズ！サボは大好きで、この春は大活躍しそうなアイテムよ。アナタも是非ゲットしてね。私のお気に入りはビンテージ加工された茶色のMiuMiu。靴箱から出して、これからドンドン履くつもりよ。
Fabulous shoes!  Love the sabots, they will be everywhere this spring.  You should get a pair. I have some vintage brown Miu Miu and I will take them out of my closet and wear them from now on.

動物愛護団体から噛み付かれることが怖くないなら、最高に素晴らしくて豪奢なコートね。私はファーのコートもベストも、パイソンやクロコダイルのバッグも実は持ってないの。ファッションのために命を犠牲にする動物を考えると胸が痛むからファーを使ったアイテムを買わないことにしてるのよ。でも、これは私個人の意見だし、私だってお肉は食べるから、ファーを着る人たちを批判することはしないわ。
Stunning coat, luxurious look if you are not afraid of the No-Fur activists…. I do not own any fur coats or vests.  Nor do I have any python or crocodile bags…… I never bought any because I feel for the animals that gave up their life for fashion.  It is just me, and I do not  judge people wearing fur because I eat meat.

Fresh, spooky.  Stylishly casual.  I love the head-cover.  I use my scarfs in winter to wrap my head. It is stylish and original. My neighbors sometimes do not recognize me because I look taller and different.

Love the feel of luxury in this outfit.  The more you look like you just got out of your bed and threw a fur coat over your pajamas, and walked into your high heels and went out the door, the more you look stylish-effortless and naturally-beautiful.  In fact it takes one hour to get the look right but the important thing is that it does not show.

ショックなニュース：アレキサンダー・マックイーンが昨日死去
SHOCKING NEWS that Alexander McQueen died yesterday.

 

このニュースを知ったのは、全日空ホテルでのSouth America Ballに友人と出席し、サルサやメレンゲを一晩中踊って楽しんだ帰り道のことでした。帰りの車の中で携帯に電話が入り、アレキサンダー・マックイーンが自殺したと知らされました。
I was driving home this morning after attending the South America Ball at the ANA hotel with my friends, dancing the night away – salsa and meringue. I received a call on my i-phone while driving, informing me that Alexander had committed suicide.

リー（※訳注：アレキサンダー・マックイーンのファーストネーム）は真の天才でした。彼のデザインや創造力、フェミニンな発想まで、私は彼のすべてを愛していたわ。最高の美しさ、時代を越えたユニークさ、そしてこの世のものとは思えないすばらしさ。私のクローゼットには、ここ数年の間に買った彼のデザインのものが何点かあるわ。
Lee was a design genius. I adore the designs, the creativity, the feminine fantasies concocted by Alexander McQueen. Absolutely beautiful, timeless, unique and heavenly. My wardrobe includes several pieces of his designs which I bought within the past years as art.

2年前、ロンドンのアレキサンダー・マックイーンからコンタクトがあり、日本でのプライベートファッションブランド向けのデザイン契約について相談されたことがあったの。残念ながら契約はうまくいかなかったけれど、6か月の交渉期間中、彼は大量のビデオやデザイン集、プレスキット、プロフィールを送ってくれるなど、その熱意には感銘を受けました。それら全てを、私は今でも大切に保管しているし、彼のキャリアや人生を表している宝物を持つことができて、感謝しているわ。
Two years ago I was contacted by Alexander McQueen management in London and negotiated for a design deal for a private fashion label here in Japan. At the end the negotiations reached a dead end, but the period of six months back and forth negotiating for my client had been a true enlightenment as I received numerous packages with videos, creative folders with his designs, press kits, biographies etc. I of course still have everything at home and I feel blessed to possess such a treasure reflecting his career and life.

毎年の彼のファッションショーほど、想像力をかきたてられるものはなかった。彼の素晴らしさは、自由でドラマチックな想像力が秀でていることよ。それって、ほとんどのファッションメーカーが生き残りと成功のために、益々オーナー企業に頼る傾向にある中で、とても貴重なことだと思うわ。
No one will ever create a fashion show as “fantasy-full” as he did each year. He was a master at standing out with his theatrical creativity with a freedom given to him which was very unique based on the fact that most fashion houses increasingly need to rely on corporate ownership to survive and succeed.

リー、あなたの代役はいないわ。本当に残念よ。私が大好きなデザイナーだったのに。あなたが一週間前にお母様を亡くした時に感じたであろう気持ちを、私は今、感じています。あなたを発掘した人、親しい友人、恩師の方、そしてスタイリストのことを考えると本当に心が痛みます。
No one will ever replace you Lee, you will be truly missed. You are my favorite designer and my heart feels for what you must have felt when your sweet mother passed away a week earlier. I cannot stop thinking of the person who discovered you, your close friend and mentor, stylist

イザベラ・ブロウも、愛する夫を亡くした直後に服毒自殺しました。彼女は彼がいない人生なんて耐えられなかったのかもしれません。リー、あなたにとって、愛するお母様がいない生活は意味がなかったのかしら。あなたの選択は尊重するけど、あなたのファッション界に対する多大なる貢献と創造力を考えると、ファンたちがあなたの死を受け入れるのは難しいと思うわ。多くの人が無念さを感じ、いつまでもあなたへのリスペクトを忘れないでしょう。
Isabella Blow, committing suicide as well, drinking a strong poison, right after her beloved husband passed away. She was not able to live without him……. I guess you could not live without your mother. I respect your choice, even though it will be hard for your followers to live without your creativity and your outstanding contributions to the fashion world. You will be truly missed and respectfully remembered.

お母様のご冥福をお祈りすると共に、あなたが他の天才に生まれ変わってすぐにこの世界に戻ってくることを心から願っています。
Rest in peace with your mother, may your spirit come back into another genius blessing this world, sometime soon.

イザベラやリーのように、自殺や躁鬱病に悩んでいる人たちのことを思うと心が痛みます。軽はずみなことは言えませんが一つだけ確かなのは、どれだけ心の闇が深くても、数週間でその闇が晴れると信じることです。あなたのことを心から愛してくれる人の近くに身を置き、助けを求め、決してあせらないことです。大切な命をあきらめたり捨てたりしないよう、心の底から願います。
Also, my heart goes out to everyone suffering like Isabella and Lee of suicidal thoughts or bipolar disorders. There is little that can be said, but one thing for sure is that when the light in your mind is deep dark, always think that it will clear again after a few weeks, just surround yourself with people who truly love you, seek for help, just hang on and do not give up and give away your precious life. Much love from the bottom of my heart.

I love to share this video with you. Amazing holographic 3d image of topmodel Kate Moss floating during the Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2006 runway show. It was very controversial for him to do that, because it was the time when most media and major fashion brands would turn their back on Kate Moss because of her scandal. He made her appear as a symbol and floating above the press-gurus as if she was snubbing them. Classic of his bad-boy, press rebel fashion kid attitude.

She was visiting Tokyo with her family, her husband Tom Cruise and her little girl Suri.

ケイティはすごくきれいで、賢い女性よ！気取らない人柄で、服装もカジュアル・エレガント。
Yes Mina san, she is really pretty and pretty smart! Very down to heart and casual-elegantly dressed.

サ マンサタバサの寺田和正社長（カズ）が私とケイティをランチに招待してくれたの。場所はザ・リッツ・カールトンにある和食レストランの個室（お座敷）。ケ イティとはファッションや彼女が手掛けている洋服のラインから、彼女の日常生活、最近の活動までいろいろな話をしました。子育てと長時間の仕事をいかに両 立するかについても話したわ。ケイティはカズに、日本のファッションやライフスタイル、流行などについてたくさん質問をしていました。ケイティもファッ ションが大好きみたい！
Kazu Terada of Samantha Thavasa arranged a lunch at the Japanese restaurant at the Ritz Carlton, for the 3 of us, very private, in a tatami room. We spoke about fashion, her new line of clothes, her life and her projects. We spoke about being a mother and working long hours, how to balance both tasks. She asked many questions to Kazu about fashion, lifestyle and trends in Japan. She is a fashion lover.

ケイティはとっても背が高いの。畳の上で撮った写真だからヒールなしだけど、私より遥かに高かったです！といっても、私の身長は165cmだから、巨人っていうわけじゃないわよ。
Katie is so tall, we are both not wearing hills on the picture because in Japan you have to remove your shoes to walk on a tatami, and she is so much taller than me (not difficult actually as I am only 1.65 cm).

カズはとっても紳士で、いつもセレブを紹介してくれるの。感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。カズと仲の良いセレブは本当にたくさんいるのよ。
カズ、世界はあなたを必要としているわ！
Kazu is such a gentleman and it is always an honor to meet privately with big stars thanks to him, as he is friend to so many of them.

10cmのハイヒールを履いていて、待ち合わせに遅れそうな時・・・あなたならどうする？

What do you do when you are late and you are wearing 10 cm high-heels!

愛車AudiQ7を表参道に駐車し、トランクからキックボードを取り出して道を挟んだFendiに向かったわ。文字通り5分で到着！
ゲランの新色口紅のリリースパーティーに招待された、プレスやセレブたちがすでに大勢集まっていました。
新作には鏡が付いていて最高よ！

私の友人2人、デザイナーのMaria・Hと写真家のAndrea・ Keatsも来てくれて、ゲランの新色口紅を試しました。

私たちは、ショップ2Fで販売している素晴らしいFendiの家具も見てまわったけど、すごくステキなソファー、ベッド、ブランケット、枕や鏡があったわ。
今季のコレクションや美しいデザインに私たちの目は釘付け。
その後、私たちは表参道ヒルズの最上階にあるイタリアンレストランでランチ。豊富なビュッフェは新鮮でとても健康的ね。

ランチの後、Mariaはミーティングへ、私はヘアースタイリングトレーニングを見にToni&Guyへ行きました。
2局のテレビが撮影し、マガジンハウスのライター、シマダユキさんも来ていて、新しいテクを取材していたわ。

4時にはToni&Guyを出て、またキックボードを蹴って、蹴って・・・約1キロ離れた愛車AudiQ7に向かいました。
途中、信号待ちをしていたら、私に気づいた女の子たち（男の子もいたわね）から一緒に写真を撮ってくれと頼まれたんだけど・・・すごく面白かった！
彼女たちったら、私じゃなくて私のキックボードに興奮していたのよ！

それから、息子たちを学校に迎えに行って自宅に送り届けました。彼らは家庭教師のRemyと宿題をしています。Julietは夕食の準備。
私は着替えて、大岡山から再び4周年記念を迎える表参道ヒルズへ。ビッグになりつつあるエミリと今年のファイナリストたちが19：30からステージに上がるのよ。
表参道ヒルズのいたるところに貼ってあるエミリのポスターを見たかしら？WOW!

これが私の愛車キックボードよ。（AudiQ7と同じオレンジ色にカスタマイズするべき？

I parked my treasure (my Audi Q7) in a public parking on upper Omotesando. Opened the trunk, took my razor and rolled out of the parking and on to the Fendi shop across the street in literally 5 mn! When I arrived many press people and celebrities had already arrived for a reception hosted by Guerlain to release its new lipstick colors. This one is fabulous because it has a mirror!

My 2 friends, designer Maria H. and photographer Andrea Keats joined me. They tried the Guerlain new color lipsticks. We looked at the beautiful Fendi furniture that they sell on the second floor of the shop. They have really amazing sofas, beds, blankets, pillows and mirrors. We looked at the new collection, beautiful designs. Then we went for lunch inside the Omotesando Hills on the top floor at the Italian restaurant. Big buffet, fresh food and very healthy.

Maria left for a meeting and I went to Toni&Guy to attend the hair-styling training. Two national televisions were filming and also Magazine House writer, Yuki Fujishima was there writing about the new techniques.

At 4pm, I left Toni&Guy, rolled, rolled, rolled… to my Audi Q7 parked a kilometer away. At the signal light while waiting to cross the street, I was asked to take pictures with girls (and a guy) who recognized me… so funny! They were more excited about my razor than about me at the end!

I picked up my boys at school and drove back home. They are now doing their homework with Remy their tutor. Juliet is cooking dinner. I have to change and drive back from Ookayama to Omotesando Hills for its 4th year anniversary, with Emily being the big star and the finalists will appear on stage as well, from 7:30pm.

みんな、元気？今日の東京は快晴で気持ちが良かったけど、ブログはちょっと辛口だから心の準備をしておいてね！

Good morning everybody…. big sunshine over Tokyo today. But, be ready because I am going one more time to be brutally honest….

私はいつも「見た目だけが“美しさ”ではない」と言っているけれど、このブログを読めばその本当の意味がわかるはずよ。

When I say that beauty is more than flesh, I will explain through this post.

I am an advocate of BEING BEAUTIFUL IS BEING SMART.

美しい＝賢い。これは私の信念です。

知性を身につけ、自分をアピールする方法を学び、個性を磨き, 自分のパーソナリティを披露することによって、美しさは生まれるわけです。正しい選択をして、頭が空っぽのお人形さんにならないこと。人生のチャンスに巡りあったら、素早くそれをつかまえること。
もし出遅れたら、チャンスは誰かに取られてアナタは置き去りにされるでしょう。

 

YES….. it is all about being intelligent, knowing how to promote yourself, your uniqueness, showcasing your personality. About making the right moves and not being a clueless barbie-doll. Life offers opportunities in life and you better grab them first or someone else will do and you will stay behind.

 

今朝、息子たちを学校に送った後、マカダミアナッツと一緒にコナコーヒーを2杯飲んで、MUJのサイトでファイナリストのブログをチェックしました。

After dropping my boys at school very early this morning, I came back home and after 2 cups of fresh Kona coffee with macadamia nuts, I surfed the Miss Universe Japan website and checked each finalist blog.

 

うーん。ちっともおもしろくないコンテンツが多くてびっくりよ！愛犬や他人の犬、とにかく犬の写真ばっかり載せている子もいるし・・・将来の夢はペットショップを経営することかしら？！

Well…. some are shockingly boring! Some girls posted mostly pictures of their dogs, of other people’s dog, maybe their dream is to open a dog-styling salon?!

べ物のことばっかり載せている子もいました。
日本人はどうしてこんなに「食」について熱心なの？
テレビや雑誌も食べ物だらけで、まるでプロパガンダみたい！
なのに、残念ながら良い食生活を送っている人はあまりいないみたい。
エリカ・アンギャルの本にその事実が証明されています。

Some girl’s blog is all about food, food and more FOOD! What?! What is the obsession with food in Japan?! It is all over the TVs, magazines, actually everywhere like a propaganda. But sadly nobody seems to know how to eat well…. see Erica Angyal’s book, it proves it.

これはもしかして、日本人が「食」に取り付かれているせいかもしれません。

日本人は和食をもっと愛するべきです。おばあちゃん世代が作っていたような和食は、世界一健康的な食事といえます。マドンナが良い証拠です。ツアーで世界中を飛び回る彼女に随行する専属シェフは日本人。
マドンナの年齢を感じさせない素晴らしいボディとエネルギーを見れば 日本食の素晴らしさがわかるでしょう！

Japanese people should stick to their own food, because Japanese food like the grand mothers used to prepare it is the healthiest food in the world. The proof is that Madonna always travels around the world with her Japanese cook, an never, ever, without her. Well… look at Madonna body and energy at her age!

ブログに自分の写真を載せているファイナリストもいましたが、
自分のことをわざと不細工に見せようとしているかと思うぐらい、ひどいものでした！

Others finalists posted some pictures of themselves, so unflattering, that I am wondering if they are trying to make people think that they are ugly!

私が一番気に入ったのは福田萌子のブログです。彼女の明るいパーソナリティがはっきりと伝わるし、スタイリッシュでキレイな写真もたくさん載っています。また、記事と写真でミスユニバースで経験していることや自分の毎日を読者に伝えています。

特におもしろいのは、様々なスタイルのバリエーションを載せているところ。
ヘアもメイクも衣装もそれぞれの写真では違うでしょう？
4種類のスタイル、ポーズ、照明や背景を取り入れています。
萌子はモデルですが、実はこういうことを自分でできるモデルはあまりいないのよ。
どうしたらいいか、何を着たらいいか、何を考えたらいいかも、すべて人の指示次第って人が多い。
このブログの後半に載せている萌子の写真を見れば、ちゃんと萌子自身が考えたことがわかるはずです。

This is interesting… she shows different styles: hair, make, clothes. 4 options of styling, different poses, different lighting and backgrounds. okay she is a model, but you know as well as me that models are normally waiting for someone to tell them what to do, what to wear and what to think…. but the pictures later on, on my post will show you that she actually thinks on her own and pretty well.

ファイナリストのスタイルを参考にしたい若い女の子たちにとって、

To the other finalists, please work on what I told you yesterday when we worked together at the office. Some of you are miles away to be just okay. You have no excuse, excuses are for losers. Challenge yourself even more, more is never enough.

みんな、ボーっとしてないで目を覚ましなさい。さもないと3月9日にショックを受けることになるわよ。
大会で勝つのはたった一人だけど、私としては全員を勝者にしたいと思っています。
素晴らしい仕事に就いて、最高な人生を送ってもらいたい。
大会に向けてトレーニングをすることで、たくさんのことを学べるし大きく成長するから、
人生は絶対変わるはずよ。新しい自分を見つけたら、その後はずっと成功して欲しいと思っています。
これは私が立てたファイナリストみんなのゴールです。あなたのゴールは何でしょう？
今から5年後、どうしていたい？誰と一緒にいたい？そして10年後は？

You better wake-up or March 9th will give you a big wake-up call. There will be only one winner in the competition at the end… well in my mind it is not true, I want you all to be winners at the end. I want you to get the best jobs, the best life because you will have grown and learn so much during these coming months leading to the final, that your life will never be the same.  want you to be surfing a big wave for the years to come. This is my goal for you all. Now… what it yours? Think about where you want to be in 5 years. Doing what? Being with who in your life? Aiming to which goal in 10 years ahead?

私の大切なファイナリストのみんな、よく聞いてちょうだい。
3月9日に向けて、たくさんの夢を描いて、たくさんの愛情を注いで、たくさんの力を出しましょう！
